Location: Yangzhou stands at the junction of the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal in the center of Jiangsu Province, serving as an important node city in the Economic Circle of the Yangtze River delta and an important port city of commerce, trade and tourism.
Administrative division: Yangzhou governs three districts named Hanjiang, Guangling and Jiangdu, two county-level cities named Gaoyou and Yizheng and one county named Baoying. The total governing area is 6591 km2 with a registered population of 4,616,700, meanwhile, the city area is 2306 km2 and the urban population is 2,324,700.
Climate & Topography: Yangzhou falls within the subtropical humid area, enjoying four distinct seasons and moderate climate. The landscapes belong to flat flood plain, typical in the Yangtze River Delta. Over 90% of Yangzhou is plain in which countless rivers and lakes crisscross, edged by 80 km steady coastline of the Yangtze River. It is rich in resources like grain, cotton, oil and aquatic products. It also abounds with mineral deposits such as petrol, natural gas, hot spring and ores.
Yangzhou, boasting a picturesque eco-environment, is one of the National Model Cities of Environmental Protection, National Forest City, National Ecologic City, National Sanitary City, and the city recognized for United Nation’s Habitat Scroll of Honor. Currently, it has the urban built-up area green rate of 41.5% and the green coverage of 43.7%, per capita park green area reaches 18.35 square meters, At present, we are pushing forward the construction of the urban park system which integrates such functions as ecological preservation, exercising, social networking, cultural construction, civil defense and pedestrian networks. More than 140 parks have been built and opened so far. Every urban resident can reach a municipal park in 10 minutes by car, a district park in 10 minutes by bicycle and a community park in 10 minutes by walk, forming its unique city picture featured with the city encircled with gardens and a perfect integration between the city and water. Urban drinking water quality compliance rate reached 100%.
At present, we are accelerating the construction of the Jianghuai Ecological Corridor and towns with special characteristics along it. We set up the Jianghuai Ecological Corridor Construction Fund for 20 billion Yuan and 10 billion Yuan for "China Insurance Investment -- Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Urban and Rural Areas Ecological Construction Fund" which focus on the implementation of the six pilot projects such as ecological restoration, traffic construction, environmental protection and foundation consolidation, environmental remediation, green industry cultivation, towns with special characteristics building and beautiful countryside construction. It creates a broad space for industrial cooperation and model innovation.
Yangzhou is advanced in education, and the enrollment rate for senior high schools of the city kept 100% and that of the colleges and universities up to 94.3%. Yangzhou University is the key comprehensive university of provincial level among Jiangsu Province. It took the lead in the merger of universities, known as the banner of reform among China's colleges and universities. And Yangzhou High School, with a history of more than one hundred years, is well known all over the country. Having 9 Grade III hospitals, 4 of which are the Grade III Class A hospitals, Yangzhou boasts well-developed medical facilities. Yangzhou boasts sound public security, and has been appraised as an advanced city for its excellent public security control for several consecutive years.
